Picturesque Dundas Castle is one of the most incredible Scottish castle wedding venues we have ever seen. Above all, it exudes elegance and class. This, coupled with the warm Scottish hospitality, means you would be hard pushed to find a better wedding venue. Below you can view the collection of some of our favourite wedding photography in West Lothian, Dundas Castle.
The wedding days run seamlessly and this is largely due to the expertise of the Wedding Events and Operations Managers. They work closely with you to plan your dream wedding, always keeping us well-informed on the day to make sure things run smoothly.
Wedding Preparations
There are 17 luxurious bedrooms within the castle, accommodating up to 37 adult guests. The Winter Suite is one of our favourites, featuring a stunning armoire – the perfect place to hang your wedding dress whilst having your hair and make-up touch-ups done. We like to take a few detail photographs of your accessories, dress and bouquet – we find these really tie the gallery together.
Relaxed & Natural Wedding Photography Edinburgh
We use a relaxed approach throughout the day. From a distance, we photograph the bride and bridesmaids during the final stages of getting ready, then take a few relaxed group photos and portraits in the room or on the landing before the ceremony.
Meanwhile, the boys enjoy a few drinks and a game of snooker in the Billiards Room. Following that, we like to head outside for a few quick photos of the groom and his groomsmen in front of the Castle or Courtyard entrance.
Cosy Ceremony in The Auld Keep or a Romantic Outdoor Summer Ceremony in The Courtyard?
With parts of the castle dating back to the 15th Century, you will be transported to another time as you walk the halls and explore the grounds of this incredible place. Two of our favourite ceremony locations at the castle are the Great Hall within The Auld Keep and the stunning outdoor ceremony location within The Courtyard.
Wedding Ceremony held in The Auld Keep at Dundas Castle in Edinburgh
The 600 year old Auld Keep is possibly one of the most romantic places we’ve ever come across for a wedding ceremony. Guests make their way from the castle up the original stone staircase of The Keep. From there it’s into the awe-inspiring original stonework Great Hall with an impressive vaulted ceiling. The incredibly romantic atmosphere of the Great Hall is the perfect setting to exchange wedding vows by candlelight. The Great Hall has seating for up to 110 guests.
Summer Courtyard Ceremony – Dundas Castle Wedding Photos
We love photographing outdoor summer wedding ceremonies in The Courtyard at Dundas Castle. There is simply nowhere else like it! The 17th Century Walled Courtyard Garden is a stunning location, complete with dramatic arched doors and a charming white stone fountain. We love the duck egg coloured doors and aisle carpet, too! Alternatively, you can choose to hold your ceremony on the grounds with the breath-taking backdrop of the castle. Both outdoor options seat up to 200 guests.
Photos from the Roof of The Auld Keep at Dundas Castle
Following the ceremony, your guests make their way back to the castle for drinks whilst you get whisked away to the roof of The Auld Keep. This is the perfect time to have a moment to yourselves after making your vows to one another. Enjoy chatting and taking in the beautiful views across the castle grounds and the Firth of Forth. Meanwhile, we like to take a few portraits from a distance while you enjoy this special time together.
Your Wedding Drinks Reception at Dundas Castle
The Front Hall in the Main Castle is a beautiful space for your post-ceremony drinks reception. Couples are announced or piped down the Grand Staircase into the Front Hall, often to a welcoming cheer from your awaiting guests. If the weather is nice guests spill out onto the front lawn to enjoy the sunshine and beautiful scenery.
Stunning Locations for Photography
Come rain or shine, you have an abundance of magnificent photography locations to choose from. From the castle, Auld Keep, courtyard and the sweeping estate, the possibilities are endless. If you’re lucky you may even meet a Llama or two!
Group Photographs at Dundas Castle
We always like to take a few group portraits of you with your family and friends. We find 20 to 30 minutes of group photographs is the magic number, we can typically take between 6 and 10 small group photographs in this time.

Then it’s time to cut your cake in the Front Hall before heading to The Pavilion for the wedding breakfast.
Big Group Shot at Dundas Castle
When your guests are making their way from the castle to the Pavilion for dinner, this is the ideal time to stop for a big group shot of all of your guests in front of the 17th Century fountain.
Dinner & Speeches in The Pavilion
Then it’s on to speeches and the Wedding Breakfast in the beautiful Pavilion, complete with Chivari Chairs (which we love!). The Pavilion is beautifully bright and airy, great natural light for photos. For smaller groups, the Wedding Breakfast and speeches are often held in the Croquet Room within the castle.
Evening Reception
The lights get dimmed and it’s onto a lovely evening of dancing. We’ve seen a few fantastic cover and Ceilidh Bands fill the dancefloor!
